KYU [kie-joe] is derived from ‘kyu’ [kjoe], which is the Japanese word for grade/level/step, mainly used in the grading system of tradional Japanese fighting arts. It implies progression.

KYU was founded in 2004 in the city of Arnhem, Holland, as four frustration-driven
musicians united in their goal to provide their angry and disappointed views on, and
experiences with, modern society with a fitting soundtrack. Pretty soon they connected and the sickness started coming out…

Bandmembers:
King Harm: Vocals, Guitars
The Rev: Bass, Backing Vocals
Roy: Drums, Programming

Genre discription:

and technical death metal in it, all drenched in plenty of groove and aggressive melodic
vocals.

STTNNRMLLLFCKDP – 2005

KYU - STTNNRMLLLFCKDP

About STTNNRMLLLFCKDP:
Their debut album called ‘STTNNRMLLLFCKDP’ is recorded in Studio Harrow in Losser,
and is recorded by master producer Marc ter Braak. It received positive reviews in the
international press, including top ten positions in year lists.

From the press (STTNNRMLLLFCKDP):

The guys from KYU created their own genre and therefore their own sound. Tight and low,
brutally pounding, delicious riff work, good vocals, doom ridden intermezzo’s and most of
all, music that will impact as a motherfucking’ bomb when played live. – Frank Helmink for
Aardschok, 2006 –

Their music is as unique as are their album and song titles. It consists of extremely heavy,
polyrithmic grooves variating with breaks that pound even harder, as far as that’s possible.
It’s something lots of bands try, but fail to accomplish. – Zware Metalen, 2006 –

The sound of the album is close to perfect, the skills of the musicians and the vocalist are far
beyond average and STTNNRMLLLFCKDP has got potential. – Rockezine, 2006 -

KYU facts:
- Played several summer festivals, like Huntenpop and Appelpop, as well as
Bevrijdingsfestival Wageningen @ Kabaal am Gemaal.
- Played at and helped initiate the Deaf Metal festival, a metal festival for the deaf
which generated European wide media attention.
